Runs in

Most front yards in this area were landscaped once, in the year the house sold, and never touched again. Overgrown yews against the foundation, a bed line that has disappeared into the turf, and nothing flowering after May. Rebuilding that is a one or two day job, not a renovation.

What is included

What a bed build includes

  • Bed layout

Bed shape laid out on the ground with a hose before a shovel goes in, so you can see the line and change it.

  • Plant selection that fits

Plants picked for the light the bed actually gets and for their mature size, not their nursery pot size.

  • Proper planting

Holes dug wider than the root ball, roots teased out, planted at grade. Buried crowns are why new shrubs die in year two.

  • Borders

River rock, stone or a cut edge depending on the property. Rock borders along siding keep splash back off the wall.

  • Solar path lighting

Low cost lighting set along walks and beds. No trenching, no electrician, and it makes the front read at night.

From first text to done

  1. 1

    Walk the property

Look at drainage, sun, existing plants worth keeping and what the house actually needs.

  2. 2

    Lay it out

Bed lines marked and plant spots set on the ground before install so nothing is a surprise.

  3. 3

    Install and mulch

Plants in, borders set, beds mulched, site cleaned. Watering instructions before we leave.

About garden bed design

What is the best time of year to plant shrubs in Pennsylvania?

Spring and fall. Fall planting is the stronger option for most shrubs and trees in this area because the soil stays warm while the air cools, so roots keep growing without the plant fighting summer heat. Summer planting works but needs consistent watering for the first six to eight weeks.

Can you work around what is already there?

Usually. Plenty of established shrubs are worth keeping and just need to be cut back hard and have the bed rebuilt around them. Overgrown foundation plantings that are up over the windows or rubbing the siding are the ones normally worth pulling and replacing.

Do you install landscape lighting?

Solar path and accent lighting, yes. It gets set along walkways and bed lines and needs no wiring or permit. Hard wired low voltage systems that require running cable back to a transformer on a house circuit are outside what we take on.
